“How much can you not sunbathe after peeling?” – every girl asks this question, thinking about the procedure of professional skin cleansing. No cosmetologist can definitely answer, because there is no universal figure that measures the prohibition of sunlight. It all depends on the type of peeling – mechanical or chemical – and the depth of penetration of its active components into the layers of the epidermis.
Tanning and peeling: what’s next?
Sunbathing is a controversial wellness procedure, to the question of the benefits and dangers of which physicians have no clear answer.
On the one hand, the benefits of tanning are obvious. Reasonably dosed ultraviolet increases general immunity, reduces allergy manifestations and is its prevention, stimulates the renewal of blood cells, helps to calmly relate to stressful situations and maintain good mood.
Moderate tanning is the vital and only inexhaustible source of group D vitamin, the lack of which threatens osteoporosis – brittle bones. Staying in the sun helps to cope with extra pounds by accelerating the metabolism and enjoying life without experiencing a deficiency of serotonin – the “hormone of happiness”.
On the other hand, exposure to ultraviolet radiation, especially during peak hours of solar activity, is a threat to skin health. Because tanning is her natural defense against radiation. The most harmless thing that a frequent tan can turn into is photoaging. The appearance of age-related changes under the influence of the sun affects even young ladies who do not come up with the thought of the first wrinkles.
Ultraviolet causes the skin to change so that they:
- lose elasticity;
- become thicker;
- wither and peel;
- covered with extensive age spots;
- reflect the first signs of rosacea – a thin network of capillaries;
- are at risk for developing melanoma – skin cancer.
Peeling helps to cope with the signs of photoaging. Superficial or median exfoliation of the face returns natural beauty and youth. After a course of 6-8 peeling procedures, pigmentation leaves, there is no trace of the vasculature, the skin tone and microrelief are leveled, and regeneration (natural rejuvenation) processes are started at the level of the deep layers of the epidermis. Peeling also causes the skin to feel stress, destroying its upper layer with acidic ingredients, but it is much more than tanning, promotes healing of the skin.
Peeling and tanning are opposite and, at the same time, interconnected methods of external exposure to the skin. Superficial peeling after tanning is as necessary as before. In the first case, the task of exfoliation is to eliminate the symptoms of photoaging, in the second – to prepare the skin for a uniform and lasting tan. But remember: immediately running to the beach or to the solarium after peeling is strictly prohibited.
Facial peeling significantly thins the skin, slows down the production of melanin and in the process of recovery makes it vulnerable to sunlight. Therefore, cosmetologists advise to be patient and take a timeout between visiting the salon and a trip to the sea.
Tan after face peeling
The time that must elapse between a course of peeling procedures and free exposure to the sun depends on the type and method of exfoliation.
Mechanical peeling does not impose long-term prohibitions on sunbathing. Scrubbing with compositions with small particles of arbazives (for example, ground coffee beans, fruit seeds or sea salt), as well as surface cleansing of the face with ultrasound, does not imply a long recovery period.
You can lie down on the beach or sunbathe in the solarium after such procedures in two days. Gentle and easy removal of keratinized epidermal cells and impurities does not change the structure of the skin at the epidermal level, therefore it is not a contraindication to ultraviolet rays.
A serious and long-lasting taboo is applied to the tan after the procedures of middle and deep peels. Their result is the restructuring of internal processes in the epidermis. In the event of such exposure, the dead layer of the dermis is completely destroyed, in response to this, cells begin to actively produce natural collagen and elastin.
The microcirculation of blood improves, the skin receives oxygen and micronutrients that it lacks in ordinary life. The middle and deep types of peeling have noticeable visual effects, but to achieve them, a woman has to sacrifice her time and plan the courses of anti-aging procedures correctly.
- time for tanning after chemical peeling;
The most common and popular chemical peels are acidic. For example, based on glycolic, trichloroacetic (TCA), lactic, phenolic, azelaic, phytic and retinoic acids. It is better to entrust their implementation to a professional and not save money on visiting a beauty salon. These types of exfoliation solve dermatological skin problems. Therefore, sometimes such peelings are referred not to cosmetic procedures, but to treatment that requires application anesthesia.
Basically, acid peels are prescribed to women after 40-45 years, whose face is prone to soft tissue ptosis – it has hardened and lost shape. Also, those who are concerned about age and deep facial wrinkles, pronounced pigmentation, unaesthetic scars, for example, after an injury or acne, resort to the possibilities of chemical exfoliation. After a middle and deep peeling, ultraviolet leaves even larger pigment spots and thermal burns on the skin.
The average course of 6-8 chemical peeling and tanning sessions should be separated by at least 2 weeks. At this time, you should avoid sunlight as much as possible and protect the skin with creams with a high SPF (at least 30 or 50). Therefore, these types of peelings are recommended to be performed in the off-season, for example, in early spring or autumn. You can go to the sea or to the mountains after acid peels only after two months.
If chemical peeling had to be carried out in the warm season, a hat with a wide brim and a sunscreen with an SPF mark of at least 2 should become a constant companion for women at 30 weeks. In the summer after exfoliation it is better to go outside on cloudy days. Otherwise, the result of the procedure will quickly disappear.
- time for tanning after laser peeling and microdermabrasion.
Hardware techniques for cleansing the skin of the face also dictate certain rules of tanning. Laser peeling and microcrystalline dermabrasion are suitable only for the spring and autumn seasons. Their action resembles the influence of chemical procedures, and often surpasses them in penetration depth.
Therefore, after hardware peelings, it is recommended to pause 2 weeks before the first meeting with the sun. And get a sunscreen protective cream. After laser resurfacing and microdermabrasion, ultraviolet radiation becomes safe no earlier than a month later.
Peeling and Solarium
It is incorrect to say that the “artificial” sun is safer for our skin than natural. Yes, the ultraviolet radiation of a tanning bed consists mainly of soft alpha rays, radioactive beta rays in tanning facilities are strictly regulated, and gamma is completely absent. But excessive enthusiasm for tanning also provokes photoaging of the facial skin and premature appearance of age-related changes, the first of which will be facial wrinkles. Therefore, it is better if the subscription to the solarium is not unlimited.
Surface peeling, such as almond or fruit peeling, requires a minimum of 10-day break between the last session and recording in the solarium. Let your complexion underline your beauty at this time. Do not rely on fate and neglect the advice of a cosmetologist. Otherwise, difficult to remove pigment spots can be obtained.
A tanning bed after chemical or laser type peeling is possible only a month after completion of the course. All this time, the pores will remain enlarged, and the skin – especially sensitive and susceptible to ultraviolet light. Therefore, the tan will go unevenly, and can be dangerous by the appearance of a burn.
Peeling and tanning can be made friends with each other. The main thing is to be patient, giving the skin time to rest and recover from exposure to scrubs, fruit acids, chemicals or laser treatment.
