Chlorophyll – Cosmetology, plastic surgery and diets

Chlorophyll

You have undoubtedly heard about chlorophyll and know that it is a type of plant pigment that is responsible for the absorption of light during photosynthesis. But plants are not the only representatives of the planet who could not exist without this substance. Chlorophyll is also extremely necessary for people. It turns out that chlorophyll for humans serves as a natural remedy for cancer prevention, blocks the work of carcinogens in the body and protects DNA from rebirths caused by toxins.

What is chlorophyll?

Chlorophyll (Chlorophyll) is a molecule that is contained in the chloroplasts of plants and gives them a green color. The chemical structure of the substance is a porphyrin ring. This feature makes chlorophyll similar to heme contained in hemoglobin. The only difference is that an iron atom lies in the central part of the heme, and magnesium is in the center of chlorophyll. The world first found out about this in 1930, exactly 15 years after the discovery of this substance by researcher Richard Wilstatter.

There are two types of chlorophyll: A and B. There is a slight difference between the two types. In particular, they differ in the composition of the side chains. In option A it is CH3, in B-isomer it is CHO. Meanwhile, both chlorophyll variants are effective photoreceptors and allow the plant to actively absorb energy from sunlight.

The second difference between chlorophyll variants is the length of absorbed waves. In both variants of the substance they are different. Thus, it can be said that both chlorophylls complement each other in the absorption of sunlight. Under natural conditions, the ratio of chlorophylls corresponds to the proportion of 3 (chlorophyll-A): 1 (chlorophyll-B). Together they make up the green pigment.

Both types of chlorophyll are fat soluble components. This means that foods rich in these substances must be supplemented with a small amount of fat. The synthetic form, although soluble in water, requires fats to completely absorb the beneficial substance.

Plants use this green pigment to get “food”, but people need this substance as a medicine.

Chlorophyll in plants

Chlorophyll in plants absorbs sunlight. But as in the case of hemoglobin, for adequate performance of its functions (synthesis of carbohydrates), it must connect to the complex protein chain. Externally, this protein may look like an unsystematic formation, although in fact it has the right structure that keeps chlorophyll in an optimal position.

How does it work”

Chlorophyll is found in all greens, including some vegetables, algae, and even bacteria. And if chlorophyll is an exclusively natural substance, then chlorophyllin is a semi-synthetic mixture produced in laboratories. Her other name is liquid chlorophyll. This substance has been used as a useful additive for over 50 years. Most often – for the treatment of skin diseases, wound healing, as well as to restore the work of the digestive organs.

As already mentioned, chlorophyll is a natural substance that protects DNA from damage caused by toxins, such as aflatoxin. And the addition of chlorophyllin neutralizes the efficiency of oxidizing agents, as a result of which oxidative damage to cells caused by carcinogens, ultraviolet radiation or radiation is reduced.

Researchers studying plants in a botanical garden of a research institute in India made an interesting discovery. It turned out that chlorophyll from fresh green leaves has an anti-inflammatory effect, protects against toxins and dangerous bacteria.

How to make “liquid chlorophyll”

Alfalfa is usually the raw material for liquid chlorophyll. Juice is withdrawn from this plant, which is then transferred to a dry form. The finished substance is used as a concentrate.

Why did substance manufacturers choose lucerne as the source? Yes, all because this plant belongs to the most saturated chlorophyll. Developed root system allows you to take the maximum from the soil. For this reason, alfalfa is an important source of potassium, iron, magnesium, and vitamin C is almost 4 times more in this herb than citrus.

The nutritional value

Chlorophyll-containing foods can be called superfoods. As a rule, all green vegetables are a collection of the most nutritious and important substances for humans. They are usually a source of vitamins A, C, E, K and beta-carotene. In addition, these products contain vital minerals such as magnesium, iron, potassium, calcium and a complex of essential fatty acids.

Benefits of Chlorophyll

Cancer Remedy

Studies have shown that chlorophyll, as well as its semi-synthetic liquid form, can bind to potential carcinogens and inhibit their absorption in the gastrointestinal tract. Due to this, at the initial stage, the distribution of harmful substances in the body is stopped. Thus, carcinogens lose their ability to influence the sensitive tissues of the joints and the heart.

Laboratory studies conducted by American scientists have shown that chlorophyll reduces the risk of developing colon and liver cancer. But how does this mechanism work? In order for a carcinogen that has entered the human body to damage the DNA structure, it must first be absorbed. For this, the human body has a cytochrome enzyme that activates harmful substances and turns them into the active form of carcinogens. And just as chlorophyll inhibits the activity of this enzyme, and therefore stops the activation of carcinogens.

A diet high in red meat and low-green vegetables increases the risk of colon cancer.

The reason for this is sometimes called toxins, trapped in the body of roasted meat. Meanwhile, with sufficient consumption of products containing chlorophyll, it is possible to protect DNA from negative impacts.

In the 2005 year, scientists in the Netherlands studied whether green vegetables can reduce the risk of colon cancer. In the role of experimental chose laboratory rats. Over the course of 14 days, scientists analyzed the effect of chlorophyll on animal bodies. As a result, the guess was confirmed. Green vegetables can protect against the formation of malignant tumors.

Liver detoxification

Another positive effect of chlorophyll on the human body is to increase the number of enzymes in the second phase of biotransformation. This factor ensures optimal liver function and the elimination of potentially harmful toxins. Early studies have already proven that the activation of these enzymes reduces the risk of liver degeneration or the formation of tumors in it.

Aflatoxin B1 is metabolized to a carcinogen that causes hepatocellular carcinoma and liver cancer. But the results of studies on animals showed that chlorophyll affects aflatoxin B1, thereby reducing the number of damaged DNA cells.

Another experiment was conducted in China with the participation of 180 adults with a high risk of developing hepatocellular carcinoma. Subjects were given 16 ml of chlorophyllin three times a day before meals for 100 weeks. As a result, the level of Aflatoxin B1 decreased by 55 percent.

Chlorophyll is able to block the activity of such substances:

  • polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons contained in tobacco smoke;
  • heterocyclic aminotoxins contained in meat cooked at high temperatures;
  • foodborne toxins: aflatoxin B1, mold fungus;
  • UV radiation.

Accelerating wound healing

Chlorophyll slows the development of bacteria, which contributes to more rapid healing of wounds. Since 1940-ies, chlorophyll is a component of many ointments for the treatment of open wounds, in particular ulcers and bedsores. It turned out that this substance reduces inflammation caused by injuries or wounds, promotes healing, and even regulates odors caused by the accumulation of bacteria.

Digestion Improvement

Chlorophyll improves detoxification of the body through the rapid removal of waste, the regulation of fluid levels, as a result prevents the occurrence of constipation. In addition, preliminary studies have shown the advantage of chlorophyll in accelerating the metabolism, which leads to weight loss.

In 2014, staff at the Department of Experimental Medicine at Lund University (Sweden) found that food containing chlorophyll, in combination with carbohydrates, reduces hunger (due to the activation of the satiety hormone) and prevents hypoglycemia in overweight women.

An earlier experiment using rats showed a positive effect of chlorophyll on weight loss. Similar studies then revealed that this substance is able to prevent weight gain in humans.

Skin protection

Antiviral effect characteristic of chlorophyll, allows you to use this substance for the treatment of oral ulcers or genital organs caused by the herpes virus. In addition, chlorophyll has been shown to be effective in the treatment of shingles. Reduces soreness of wounds, reduces the risk of developing skin cancer. The use of chlorophyll in the form of a lotion reduces relapses in people with basal cell carcinoma.

Red blood cell recovery

Chlorophyll helps to restore and replenish red blood cells in the body. This substance works at the molecular and cellular levels, and activates the body’s ability to regenerate. Chlorophyll is rich in live enzymes that help cleanse the blood and increase its ability to transport oxygen. It is an excellent remedy for anemia caused by a deficiency of red blood cells.

Getting rid of arthritis

The anti-inflammatory properties of chlorophyll make it an effective remedy for arthritis. Studies show that this substance prevents the growth of bacteria that cause inflammation. For this reason, chlorophyll is found in many anti-arthritis and fibromyalgia drugs.

Slowing the aging process

It is an effective anti-aging. Chlorophyll has received this ability from magnesium and antioxidants. Stimulating the production of certain enzymes, promotes skin regeneration and rejuvenation. In addition to this, vitamin K, which is present in pure chlorophyll, rejuvenates and activates the adrenal glands.

Salvation from insomnia

Chlorophyll affects the human body as a sedative. As a result, stabilizes the nervous system, relieves irritability, fatigue, relieves insomnia.

Deodorizing substance for the body

Part of the means for rinsing the mouth, as a component that eliminates unpleasant odor. By the way, doctors say that one of the main causes of this phenomenon are disorders in digestion. Chlorophyll, eliminating unpleasant odor, plays a triple deodorizing role: cleans the mouth (rinses), improves the digestive system (ingestion), disinfects wounds (prevents rotting in places of injury). Chlorophyll is also prescribed to patients with trimethylaminuria (when the body gets the smell of rotten fish).

Acid-base balance

Consumption of foods rich in this green substance helps to correct the acid-base balance in the body. Due to this effect, the development of pathogenic microorganisms in the body is prevented. In addition, the alkaline mineral magnesium, which is part of chlorophyll, supports the health of the cardiovascular system, the kidneys, muscles, the central nervous system, and the liver.

Strengthening muscle and bone

Green vegetables contain a substance that promotes the growth and development of strong bones. And this substance is the central atom of the chlorophyll molecule – magnesium. Like vitamin D, this mineral helps to relax, contract muscles and tones tissues.

In addition, the role of chlorophyll in the body is to:

  • constipation;
  • maintaining pancreas function;
  • treatment of recurrent pancreatitis;
  • regulation of blood coagulation;
  • preventing nasal bleeding with anemia and heavy menstruation;
  • prevention of kidney stones;
  • treatment of sinusitis;
  • restoration of hormonal balance: promotes the production of testosterone in men, and estrogen in women;
  • the prevention and treatment of inflammation and bleeding of the gums;
  • fight against fungus of the genus Candida;
  • treatment of redness and edema (remember how in childhood was a plantain attached to a wound?).

Food sources

The best way to detoxify with chlorophyll is to include green vegetables and algae in the diet. Below, we analyze the best food sources of this substance.

Leafy green vegetables

Green vegetables such as cabbage, spinach, chard contain a high concentration of chlorophyll. Nutritionists recommend consuming daily mix of different green vegetables. Ideally, the day should be from 5 to 7 servings of vitamin food. Some of these products can be replaced with fresh juices from green vegetables.

The best sources are parsley, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, chard, celery, cilantro, mint, spinach, sorrel, wild garlic, alfalfa, black currant leaves, sprouted cereals, green smoothies.

Meanwhile, it is important to know that the concentration of chlorophyll is significantly reduced after freezing or in dull greens. For example, in frozen spinach, the amount of the beneficial substance is reduced by about 35%, and the vegetable loses another 50 percent of the useful component in the defrosting and cooking field. Therefore, the only way to get maximum benefit from green vegetables is to use them fresh and raw.

Algae

Another important source of chlorophyll is chlorella. These are blue-green algae, common in Asia. In addition to its high chlorophyll content, this plant is rich in amino acids, vitamins and minerals. Algae restores hormonal balance in the body, cleanses toxins, prevents cardiovascular diseases, lowers blood pressure and cholesterol. Based on this product, many dietary supplements in the form of powder or tablets have been created. Liquid Chlorophyll is a component of sports nutrition.

Chlorophyll concentration in some products

Product Name (Cup) Chlorophyll (mg)
Spinach 23,7
Parsley 38
Watercress 15,6
Beans (Green) 8,3
Ruccola 8,2
Leek 7,7
Tsikoriy 5,2
Green peas 4,8
Chinese cabbage 4,1

Food supplement

Along with the fact that chlorophyll is part of all green vegetables and algae, this substance can also be obtained from other foods. First of all, thanks to the E140 food supplement. In the food industry, this substance belongs to the class of dyes and gives a green color to various products.

Daily rate

If we consider that high doses of chlorophyll are not stored for a long time in fresh vegetables, it becomes clear that such high popularity of food additives based on this substance. Daily doses of dietary supplements in tablet form range from 100-300 mg per day.

Liquid chlorophyll is taken a few drops twice a day (in a glass of water). The resulting bright green drink will add energy and improve well-being.

It is also easy to prepare homemade cocktails from green vegetables and herbs, which are advised to take 3-4 times a day for 150-200 ml.

Adverse properties

Chlorophyll is an absolutely safe substance for most people. Do not be afraid of side effects when taking the substance in the form of vegetables or dietary supplements. The maximum that can happen – the tongue, urine or feces may temporarily acquire a greenish tint. But intravenous injections can increase the sensitivity of the skin to the sun. In order to avoid unpleasant consequences, going outside, it is better to treat the skin with open areas with sunscreen. This recommendation is especially relevant for fair-skinned people.

Also, do not consume chlorophyll supplements for pregnant and lactating mothers.

Symptoms of deficiency

The fact that the body is experiencing a shortage of “green matter”, they say, at least, 5 signs:

  1. For no apparent reason, the acid-base balance is disturbed in the body.
  2. A person feels a breakdown, a great loss of energy.
  3. Hemoglobin level decreased.
  4. The man began to get sick often with viral illnesses, he easily gives in to colds.
  5. Pigment spots appeared, the face grew dull.

Interaction with other substances

Do not take both chlorophyll and drugs that increase sensitivity to sunlight. This combination multiplies the chances of sunburn with blisters, rashes on open skin areas.

Drugs that cause photosensitivity:

  • amitriptyline (Elavil);
  • ciprofloxacin (Cipro);
  • Norfoxacin (Noroxin);
  • lomefloxacin (Maxaquin);
  • Ofloxacin (Floxin);
  • levofloxacin (Levaquin);
  • Gatifloxacin (Tequin);
  • Moxifloxacin (Avelox);
  • trimethoprim / sulfamethoxazole (Septra);
  • tetracycline (oxsoralen);
  • trioxalen (Trisoralen).

Green cocktails: what’s the use

Smoothies made from green herbs vegetables are an effective source of mineral salts, microelements, vitamins, fiber and, of course, chlorophyll. They contain all the components necessary for active life. And besides this, they cleanse the body of toxins, heavy metals and other poisons.

This delicious product is easily absorbed by the body, preventing all sorts of diseases, eliminating excess weight, filling with energy. Green smoothies are a good tonic. It is extremely necessary for children, expectant mothers and people in old age.

How to isolate chlorophyll at home

Allocate this useful substance by force not only to chemists or workers of the industry. This process is permissible to conduct at home. For this purpose nothing supercomplex is required. To start, it is important to prepare any fresh green leaves. It can be spinach, nettle, broccoli or something else.

Chop the selected greens slightly and put in a glass jar (in the worst case, enamelware will do). Pour the contents of the container with an alcohol-water solution or ordinary vodka. Then arrange a container with a water bath component. After a certain time (depending on the characteristics of the selected leaves), the solution will begin to turn green, and the leaves will lose their natural color. If they are completely discolored, it means that the pigment has passed into the liquid. The resulting bright green substance is the isolated chlorophyll.

Attention! The green component is highly unstable before exposure to light and air. Therefore, a long time to keep the mixture is not desirable. Pretty soon she will lose a bright color and get a dirty green color.

How to make a drink with chlorophyll

The most popular and easy to prepare is a cocktail of leafy vegetables and healthy herbs. For example, nutritionists recommend making cocktails of dill, parsley, spinach, sorrel, lettuce, celery, beet tops, chard, carrot greens, nettle leaves or dandelion. All of these components (or some of them) grind in a blender and dilute with water to the desired thickness.

You can also make combined cocktails. To do this, take the 2 parts of leafy greens and 3 parts of emerald vegetables or fruits. The components are again ground in a blender and water is added to the resulting mixture. If you skip the step of dilution with liquid, then you can get a green puree, which is also acceptable for replenishing chlorophyll reserves.

By the way, choosing greens for a cocktail, it is better to give preference to rich green specimens. In such products, nutrients most. The second advice from nutritionists – it is desirable to alternate the components of the drink.

Options for ingredients for cocktails:

  • salad, banana, water;
  • dill, salad, banana, water;
  • mint, salad, pear, water;
  • nettle, parsley, banana, water;
  • basil, banana, plum, water;
  • parsley, dill, tomato, lemon, water;
  • salad, ginger, carrot, orange, water;
  • parsley, dill, sauerkraut juice, tomato, sugar, water;
  • parsley, dill, celery, cucumber, carrot, water.

But these are only options from possible blends. The components of a healthy drink are selected by each, taking into account their own tastes. However, it is not so important what exactly is part of the finished product, the main thing is that it should be green, contain a lot of chlorophyll and other useful components.

Greens in cosmetics

Chlorophyll is used …

… a component in soap making – enhances bactericidal and deodorizing properties;

… in detergents – helps to remove the smell of sweat;

… in toothpastes – as a bactericidal component;

… in bath salts – it gives aroma and has a relaxing effect.

The end of the twentieth century brought into fashion an extremely useful current – a passion for everything natural. A modern person would rather prefer a more expensive product or product on a natural basis than buy “chemistry” on the cheap. This fashion has revived interest in chlorophyll. The range of use of this tool is so wide that it is even difficult to simply count the spheres where it is used.

However, even if you do not remember all the beneficial properties of chlorophyll – do not despair. Just remember: green leafy greens – this is exactly what should always be on your table fresh, and then you will not be afraid of any diseases.
