Modern cosmetology offers many ways to deal with excess vegetation. The existing variety of solutions and promotions simply confuses potential patients and does not allow them to make the right choice. Today we’ll talk about which is better, Elos hair removal or laser hair removal. Both directions have enough fans, but their reviews are most often based on personal opinions, and not on specific facts, differences and similarities, which we have to list.
1 Fact: Different Impact Principles
The main difference between the two procedures, of course, lies in the way they are carried out. So, laser technology involves the destruction of hair using a light beam absorbed by melanin. When absorbed into a pigment, light converted into heat simply destroys it from the tip to the follicle.
Elos means a combination of a light beam and electric energy (IPL and RF). Together, they irrevocably destroying the hair shaft, bulb, and sometimes the papilla, thereby providing a pronounced positive effect on an ongoing basis.
Elos hair removal is considered by specialists as the most effective method of combating vegetation. The results of its implementation are close to 100 percent, which significantly exceeds the performance of the laser technique.
2 Fact: Different Areas of Impact
Elos procedure is positioned as one of the most versatile technologies. Indeed, it is based on several directions of influence at once (light, laser, electricity). Thanks to such an all-encompassing combination, such hair removal is prescribed to eliminate hair of absolutely any type (dark, light, red, gray). At the same time, skin color or localization of the problem area is absolutely not important.
As for the laser procedure, in this case there is a strict list of indications, beyond which it may lead to a significant decrease in the effectiveness of the performed manipulations. Since the principle of hair removal is based on the interaction of light energy with melanin, the absence of pigment will lead to a zero effect. That is why light, gray, red, very thin whitish hairs are not destroyed by this method.
3 Fact: Hair Removal May Not Be Pleasant
Quite often, you can hear from patients the opinion that they prefer comfort and painlessness to effectiveness. Unfortunately, in almost all cases, dispensing with prior anesthesia will not work.
Of the two proposed procedures, laser hair removal is considered more gentle, in terms of unpleasant sensations. During the manipulation, you may feel warmth, a slight burning sensation and moderate pain. The discomfort during this treatment usually increases with the removal of vegetation in the most sensitive areas, on the face and in the deep bikini area. To stop these sensations, cosmetologists recommend using local anesthetics (creams applied to the surface of the skin).
Elos hair removal is also positioned as a harmless and painless effect, however, patient reviews often say otherwise. The greatest discomfort is usually associated with the use of electrical energy. Of course, we can note the case when people with a low pain threshold easily endured a similar procedure without local anesthesia.
4 fact: Don’t forget about pre-training
The presence of a simple but mandatory preparatory period is common to the two described areas. The main recommendations that the patient should follow are:
- refusal of sunbathing (for 10 – 14 days before the session);
- the use of sunscreens (2 weeks before the session);
- shaving the problem area with a classic machine (1 – 3 days before the session);
- compliance with the necessary hygiene procedures on the day of the treatment.
5 Fact: An Integrated Approach
Elos and laser hair removal produce noticeable results after the first visit to a specialist, however, one procedure in either case will be clearly not enough. Any effect is carried out exclusively on the hairs that are in the phase of active growth, which means that only 15-20 percent of the vegetation of the total number can be removed at a time.
The schedule for processing problem areas can be made individually, but it is usually standard: from 5 to 8 procedures with a break in 6 – 8 weeks. Usually, after such an integrated approach, it turns out to destroy up to 70 – 90 percent of the hair, the remaining ones become more rare and light.
6 Fact: There are contraindications
Typically, at this stage, many people ask themselves why laser hair removal, if the Elos-method is more effective and universal. In fact, the answer is extremely simple: many simply do not fit the combined technology of eliminating vegetation. Of course, both procedures have common contraindications, including pregnancy and lactation, oncology, diabetes, epilepsy, colds and exacerbation of chronic ailments. However, Elos hair removal is not performed in a number of cases where the laser can actually be used. Such precedents include:
- allergy to electric current;
- the presence of embedded pacemakers.
Elos hair removal is a more effective and versatile technology to combat excess vegetation, but the laser procedure has fewer contraindications and is often easier to tolerate by patients. What methodology will be better for each specific patient is difficult to answer in absentia. Such a question is easier to resolve directly at a specialist consultation.
